Mr. Attaf confirms that Algeria will continue its contribution as a responsible and reliable partner in the face of global challenges
Within the framework of his working visit to New York, commissioned by the President of the Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. -2025.

In front of this audience, the head of Algerian diplomacy delivered a speech in which he reviewed the challenges facing the United Nations at the current stage and the prospects for overcoming them, focusing on the special and distinguished relationship between Algeria and the United Nations, in addition to the role that our country has played and is still playing in its regional environment with its Arab and African dimensions. And the Mediterranean, and at the international level, before concluding by recalling the objectives of Algeria's candidacy and the priorities of its mandate in the Security Council.
Mr. Ahmed Ataf opened his speech on this occasion by conveying the greetings of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the participants, recalling in the same context that the President of the Republic attaches great importance to the vital role of the United Nations and that he remains a strong supporter of its efforts to promote human rights, maintain international peace and security, and promote sustainable development.
In this context, the Minister affirmed that the challenges facing the United Nations at the current stage have become more severe and fiercer than they were in the past, noting in the same context that despite all the deficiencies that afflict the performance of this organization as a result of its lack of the necessary political will to fulfill long-awaited promises, yet the peoples of the globe still cling to it as a beacon of hope and an eternal repository for the legitimate aspirations of all mankind. Mr. Ahmed Ataf also referred to the responsibility placed on the member states of the United Nations in the success or failure of the latter, calling for the need for all states to adhere to the purposes and objectives of the Charter.
Minister Ahmed Ataf described the relationship between Algeria and the United Nations as special, unique and distinct, noting that many of Algeria's historical monuments highlight and explain the nature of this relationship, which began in 1956 when the issue of decolonization in Algeria was included on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly. He also mentioned In the same context, the most important historical stations that followed this great event, highlighting in particular the accession of Algeria to the United Nations on October 8, 1962 and the role it played later in combating colonialism in Africa and abroad, as well as its role in the forefront of the movement of third world countries and the efforts made in this context to restore Structuring international relations in the post-colonial era.
All these historical developments have contributed, as indicated by the Minister, to refining Algeria's foreign policy identity and strengthening its firm commitment to bear its share of the burdens of achieving the goals enshrined in the United Nations Charter and to contribute resolutely to global efforts aimed at ensuring a better future for all humanity.
As an extension of its historical record full of achievements, Mr. Ahmed Ataf affirmed that Algeria continues its contributions to spreading peace and stability in its regional environment, in close coordination with the United Nations and relevant regional organizations, especially the African Union and the League of Arab States.
In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed the outcome of the Algerian presidency of the 31st session of the Arab Summit and the endeavors made to strengthen Arab-Arab cohesion and achieve Palestinian reconciliation, as well as reviving the peace process in the Middle East to contribute to reaching a just and lasting solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict on the basis of resolutions Related United Nations and the 2002 Arab Peace Plan.
On the African level, the head of Algerian diplomacy affirmed that our country's efforts have always been directed towards providing the African Union with the necessary tools and means to carry out the mandate entrusted to it with the required effectiveness, by ensuring African solutions to Africa's problems and moving forward in the embodiment of the political, economic and security programs agreed upon on Continent. He also mentioned the mediations undertaken by Algeria to help end crises, especially in Mali, and its endeavors to harness regional efforts to combat terrorism and transnational organized crime, highlighting the new direction added by the President of the Republic to enhance the development dimension by financing and implementing many development projects in African countries. In this context, Minister Ahmed Ataf expressed his conviction that Algeria's candidacy for non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council is a natural extension of its role and commitment to strengthening international cooperation in order to build a world order in which peace, stability and prosperity prevail.
Recalling the slogan chosen by Algeria as the title for its candidacy, "Together to uphold the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter in order to achieve a better future for all," the minister explained that the Algerian vision is also reflected in the priorities that our country will work to achieve in the Security Council. These priorities are as follows:
Work to promote the peaceful settlement of crises
Strengthening partnerships and supporting the role of regional organizations
- Enhancing the status of women and youth in the paths of peace
