Message from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune on the occasion of National Migration Day, commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the demonstrations of October 17, 1961/2024

"In the name of God, Clement and Merciful,

Prayer and peace upon his Messenger,

Dear citizens,

We celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the National Emigration Day (October 17), in commemoration of the struggles of our community abroad which express the rallying of Algerians residing in France at the time, to the Glorious Revolution of Liberation.

This is an anniversary that remains deeply engraved in our minds, due to the strong symbolism it carries illustrating the unity and attachment of the people to the achievement of the objectives outlined in the eternal Declaration of November 1st... because it reminds generations of one of the most expressive images of the adhesion of our community in France to the revolutionary movement of liberation in an Algeria determined to free itself definitively from the colonial yoke and to free itself from the illusions of the colonists who dreamed of paradise, to the detriment of the inhabitants of our blessed land.

The images of the tragic scenes in the metro stations and bridges of the Seine in Paris, preserved in the archives that document the hatred, violence and racism of the colonizer in these moments of madness devoid of all civility and humanity, are the affirmation of the depth of the sacred national bond between the children of our dear country.

On this occasion, I bow with piety and deference to the memory of the victims of that sinister day, and I salute the children of Algeria abroad, men and women, renewing the constant attachment of the State to defend their rights, protect their interests and bring together the optimal conditions for their integration into the process of recovery and national renewal, and in the dynamics of Algeria's transition towards the future, with a new vision, confident in the country's capacities and its skills and the awareness of its youth and its people of the challenges, convinced of winning the bets and realizing the dreams of our valiant Chouhada in a haughty Algeria, the Algeria of nationalism and dignity, and attached to the principle of law and equity with regard to the issue of memory, which certain extremist circles are trying to falsify or relegate to the drawer of oblivion, at a time when the issue of memory needs a new breath of courage and integrity to get rid of the complex of the colonial past and look towards a future where there is no place for the sowers of hatred, among those who remain prisoners of an obsolete colonial thought.
